2 JOHN
INTRODUCTION
This letter was written by John the Apostle to encourage a Christian woman or to the body of Christ personified as a woman. His purpose was to encourage the true love in being a Christian and to warn her of the deceivers who were coming into the world. He is encouraging them to stay in the Truth regardless of the challenges they were to face.
John the Apostle wrote this letter to the “elect lady and her children.” It is believed that he was referring to the church and to all who are part of the church. It was written to encourage believers to walk in the true love of God, which is keeping His commandments. Also, John the Apostle was warning them to be aware of the deceivers. Deceivers are those who go do not confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. He refers to them as deceivers and the antichrist.
